A Pokémon GO-nak köszönhetően újult erővel lobbant fel a rajongói láz a franchise iránt, ezt pedig Hollywood sem hagyhatta figyelmen kívül. Ha a zsebszörnyek élőszereplősített kiadása nem lett volna elég húzóerő, a címszereplő szinkronhangjához megnyerték a közkedvelt Ryan Reynoldsot is.
A Pokémon: Pikachu, a detektív két hét múlva kerül mozikba, viszont voltak már olyan szerencsés újságírók, akik láthatták, és rövid reakciókat is közzétehettek élményükről a közösségi médiában. Bár az ilyen korai szösszenetek sokszor torzítanak és nem tükrözik a végső véleményeket, azért ha valamiről ennyire pozitívan nyilatkoznak, az jó előjel. A Pikachu moziról pedig csak úgy ömlenek a dicséretek: a Pokémonokkal teli világot szinte mindenki elismerő szavakkal illeti, hatalmas mókáról számolnak be, rengeteg easter egget láttak, és azt állítják, hogy a franchise rajongói imádni fogják. Van, aki szerint ez a legjobb videojáték-adaptáció, ami valaha készült.

#DetectivePikachu has the fantastic worldbuilding, fun adventure & cute creatures that Fantastic Beasts franchise needs. The story itself is just okay, and slow. I’m sure I’d appreciate it a more if I were a Pokémon fan, or as a kid. Some adult fans were losing their shit.
